David O. Selznick’s 1939 classic production of Margaret Mitchell’s best-selling Civil War/Reconstruction Era love story/saga won 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director (Victor Fleming), Best Cinematography–Color, Best Film Editing, Best Writing–Screenplay, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Vivien Leigh), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hattie McDaniel), an honorary award for outstanding achievement in the use of color, and a technical achievement award for pioneering in the use of coordinated equipment in the production of the film. Clark Cable was nominated as Best Actor in a Leading Role and Olivia de Havilland was nominated as Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The film received three other Oscar nominations.
This gumbo/ soup tureen with tray, ladle and two bowls was used in the production of this epic. The dishes were made by Johnson Bros England in the early 1900s. They are in excellent condition, showing minor wear from age and/or production use. They were acquired from Ellis Props, one of the largest prop supply houses in the U.S., whose original Certificate of Authenticity accompanies them. Also included is a Certificate of Authenticity from The Prop Master, including our 110% Authenticity Guarantee.
